The humanities are not just part of the college’s curriculum. The study of the humanities teaches one how to study and look at how the past developed and how it has impacted today’s world. The humanities allows people of different cultures to communicate and understand their sometimes common pasts but present differences.
Through the work of humanities scholars, we learn about the values of different cultures, about what goes into making a work of art, about how history is made. Their efforts preserve the great accomplishments of the past, help us understand the world we live in, and give us tools to imagine the future.
The study of humans, and all we’ve done, has always been of value. But studying the humanities now is probably more important than ever before!
