The following are 70 coaching questions managers can utilize, categorized within the framework of the four-step GROW model. Coaching starts with establishing a goal. It could be a performance goal, a development goal, a problem to solve, a decision to make, or a goal for the coaching session.
In the HBR Guide to Coaching Employees, executive coach Ed Batista defines coaching as a style of management characterized by asking questions. With those questions you can move away from command-and-control leadership to a dynamic in which your direct report grows through self-reflection.
I found that a great way to introduce coaching to managers is to encourage them to start asking questions rather than telling in their daily interaction with their employees. There are several coaching methods but one that the international coaching community probably uses the most is the GROW model (as illustrated by the diagram below).
